TWO 1 MW TURBINES INTEGRATED INTO A SINGLE FLOATING HULL

Tests are ongoing to deploy this tidal turbine system around the environs of Orkney. Looking more like a Trek dream star ship, once in the water its going to look more like the Beatle’s Yellow Submarine. The idea is to deploy hundreds of these around Scotland and the rest of the UK - and of course export to the world. There are several competing tidal solutions, I think there will be no clear winner just different types for different marine applications.

The potential for tidal energy just around Guernsey is several Giga Watts and UK potential is probably more than 30GW. Most estimates are likely quite low as at the beginning of this move only the best sites will be targeted, but when you think about it pretty well every coastal area has tide. Thanks to the moon and teams like Orbital this business is developing into something substantial. We should also appreciate the cash that consecutive British and other governments have put into these ventures.
