9KW Solar Photovoltaics, Flat Roofs - St Peter Port
In 2010 eighteen BP SOLAR panels were installed on the south-facing 3 storey flat roof of this large town house, providing 3kW peak of PV power. In 2019 twenty panels were installed on the garage flat roof with a peak output of 6.4kW! To deal with the tree shading the array was split into 4 sections to deal with changing sun through the day. The net result of having varying sunshine over the light period means there is no big peak and from morning to evening there is a tempered input to the home – more generated power is used on site, offsetting expensive power and less is exported. Grid export is great – you get paid for excess. But using power rather then selling it is more cost effective – hence the usefulness of battery storage.
