The number of panels you can fit on your roof depends on how much room there is, and if there are any obstructions. In terms of “what size array?” the tendency is to look at all possible places where panels can be installed, east, west, south and make a judgement on looks as well as effectiveness. We like our kit to look good, so we will only install something that is attractive. We have customers who have populated the centre of a roof with just 6 panels, and that’s making a useful contribution.
We have one customer who decided to install right across all roofs and generate some 14kW. We don’t think he pays any electric bills at all.
